There is no fooling our readers. We had a record number of participants in this quiz. Fiona Skinner edged out a flurry of competitors, all of whom quickly identified La Befana as the woman on a broomstick who visits homes in Italy on the eve of the Epiphany, which falls on January 6. That is one day before our new deadline for applications: January 7. Congratulations to Fiona.
